NASHVILLE SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL
ANNOUNCES NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Nancy VanReece to Lead Celebrated Theater Company as it Enters its 20th Season

NASHVILLE, TN (February 12, 2007) – Nancy VanReece has been named Executive Director of the Nashville Shakespeare Festival. In this capacity, she will guide NSF’s marketing, development, and administrative functions as the treasured Nashville theater company enters its 20th season. Nashville Shakespeare Festival produces one of Nashville’s most popular summer traditions Shakespeare in the Park and coordinates a year-long educational program that offers students in the mid-State unique and interactive opportunities to learn about the works of William Shakespeare, acting and theater arts. NSF also produces winter and youth productions as well as featuring a summer Apprentice Company for high school and college students.

Of her appointment to this executive post, VanReece states, “I couldn’t be more thrilled to be working with such wonderful people to bring Shakespearean experiences to as many people as possible in Nashville and throughout the state of Tennessee. My grandmother gave me a collection of Shakespeare’s works when I was about ten years old and told me that I would always have something to learn if I ‘listened between the lines’. I look forward to offering that same opportunity to our community.”

VanReece most recently enjoyed a successful eight and half year career in entertainment, corporate and healthcare licensing for the world’s largest performing rights agency, Broadcast Music Inc (BMI). She brings to NSF a total of twenty-five years experience in sales, marketing, promotion and business development. She has served as president of an independent advertising agency for eight years as well as a successful personal recording artist and record producer manager for nine years. She has additional experience working within the world of government and policy, lobbying public officials for various causes on the federal, state and local levels.

“NSF is fortunate to have Nancy join our company and our family at this incredible time in our journey. As we enter our 20th season, we are producing two shows in repertory for Shakespeare in the Park this summer, launching an all-teen, multicultural staging of Julius Caesar and providing more workshops and performances in schools throughout Middle Tennessee than ever before. There is such momentum building on our long history of excellence, and we are confident that Nancy and Artistic Director Denice Hicks are the right team to lead NSF into our next twenty years,” said Bill Coleman, NSF Board Chair.

VanReece has won awards of excellence in print magazine advertising and has been named as one of 2,000 Notable American Women (1995) as well as being listed in the International Who’s Who of Professional and Business Women (1993). She was also nominated as Cashbox Magazine’s Promoter of the Year (1989).

Ms. VanReece moved to Nashville in 1986 after college at Baylor University where she studied radio/TV and communications. She has participated in and served the Nashville artistic community in a variety of ways. She was president of the board of directors for People’s Branch Theater 2004-2006 and now serves on the board of directors for The Nashville Film Festival and on the Community Advisory Board for the Women’s & Gender Studies department at Vanderbilt University. She is a painter and published author.
